Sestriere, Italy

european skiing sestriere italy

Sestriere was built for snow - high, with north-west-facing slopes - and it has very extensive snowmaking, too. So even if you are let down by the notoriously erratic snowfalls in this corner of Italy, you should be fairly safe here - certainly safer than in Sauze d'Oulx, over the hill.

What's Great
What's Not-So-Great

+ A friendly town with only a hint of the pretense of a rich Italian ski village

+ Great for families and groups

+ Superb restaurants that will appeal to everyone

+ Good resort for intermediate skiers

- Few trails for advances / expert skiers

- Other than skiing there are limited outdoor activies (snowshoeing, ice climbing, etc.)

- Snow levels have been extremely unreliable for the past two seasons
